A motorcyclist died after crashing head-on into a Ford F-550 pickup truck Tuesday on Highway 41 north of Oakhurst.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. south of Bissett Station Road in the Ahwahnee area, killing Michael Baize Jr., 29, of Coarsegold, the California Highway Patrol said.

Baize was thrown from his 2005 Suzuki motorcycle and sustained major injuries. He later died at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

CHP said Baize was traveling at an unknown speed northbound on Highway 41 when he veered to the left for an unknown reason, crossing over the double yellow line, putting him in the path of the Ford F-550 traveling southbound and pulling a tractor-trailer. The driver of the Ford, from Madera, braked but was unable to avoid hitting Baize, the CHP said.

The Ford's driver and three passengers inside were not injured, CHP said.

The accident remains under investigation.
