The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office has identified the pilot who died in a crash west of Mariposa Friday as Donald Corn, 80, of Mariposa.

Corn died after his plane crashed about three miles north of the Mariposa-Yosemite Airport about 10 a.m.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said Corn was the only passenger in the single-engine amateur-built Bowers Fly Baby 1A plane.

It took searchers nearly two hours to find the wreckage in a rugged area off Highway 49.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
