Trail Mix for 4/10: China Peak ends winter season; Gorge hike approaches

The Fresno BeeApril 9, 2014

This steel and wooden footbridge spans the San Joaquin River, providing access to hiking trails on the Madera County side of the San Joaquin River Gorge Management Area outside Auberry. The bridge can be reached from the trailhead parking lot on a mile-long hike through rolling oak woodlands. The Gorge contains about 7,000 acres of public lands between Millerton Lake and Kerckhoff Reservoir.

The Huntington Lake resort closed its doors Sunday on the winter snow season, despite getting 40 inches in its final week — more than a third of its snowfall for the entire season.

China Peak will open for mountain biking starting June 28-29.
