Fresno man dies when SUV slams into telephone pole in Clovis

A 21-year-old Fresno man was killed early Tuesday when he lost control of his car and struck a telephone pole east of Clovis, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man was behind the wheel of a Saturn SUV heading south on Academy Avenue, north of Bullard Avenue, about 2:20 a.m. when the car drifted across the northbound lane and off the road before colliding with the pole.

The man's name has not been released pending notification of his family. The crash was under investigation.
