Fire destroys Visalia home, kills family pets

A fire destroyed a Visalia home and an unknown number of family pets perished, the Visalia Fire Department said.

The fire broke out about 5 p.m. Wednesday at 1428 W. Howard St. in south central Visalia near Divisadero Middle School. A burner on a stove was accidentally left on, the fire department said.

No residents or firefighters were hurt, but damage to the home was estimated at $250,000 and $100,000 to the contents.
