Parlier Unified School District Superintendent Gerardo Alvarez and Israel Lara, president of Youth Centers of America, are the 2014 Broadband Champions.

Alvarez and Lara are just two of 15 people being recognized for their groundbreaking work and strong commitment to close the digital divide.

The 15 individuals are featured in the California Technology Fund 2013-2014 Annual Report and will be recognized in an event in Pasadena on May 19.

Alvarez and Lara have worked together to distribute 900 new iPad Tablets -- one to every high school student just days before Christmas last year.

The pair also recruited Verizon, which is providing a hotspot to go with each tablet -- giving hundreds of families connectivity at home.
