The Chowchilla Police Department is investigating a pipe bomb that was left Friday evening at a Chowchilla gasoline station.

Just before 6 p.m. Friday, a man approached the clerk of the Shell Station near Chowchilla Boulevard and Kings Avenue saying he found a pipe bomb. He left it at the rear of the store and left the area, police said.

When officers arrived, they found an explosive device and evacuated the area. The Fresno County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was called and rendered the explosive safe.

The case is under investigation, and Chowchilla police are asking anyone with information to call them at (559) 665-8600.
