The pedestrian struck and killed Thursday afternoon after he appeared to tumble down an embankment on southbound Highway 99 and Golden State Boulevard has been identified as Francisco Lopez of Fresno.

The California Highway Patrol said Lopez, 20, may have tumbled down the embankment on the transition road between southbound Highway 99 and Golden State Boulevard about 1:30 p.m., when he was run over by a tractor-trailer heading to Golden State Boulevard. The big rig did not stop.

CHP said it was not known how many vehicles may have struck Lopez. A witness described the first vehicle that ran over Lopez as a white tractor-trailer rig, the CHP said.

The CHP is asking for the public's help. If anyone has any information on this incident, call (559) 441-5400.
