Pedestrian fatally struck by big rig after falling down Fresno embankment

A pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday afternoon after he tumbled down an embankment on southbound Highway 99 and Golden State Boulevard in downtown Fresno.

The California Highway Patrol said the 20-year-old man may have tumbled down the embankment on the transition road between southbound Highway 99 and Golden State Boulevard about 1:30 p.m., when he was run over by a big rig heading to Golden State Boulevard. The big rig did not stop at the scene. The off-ramp was closed by the accident but was expected to open soon.

The man, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
