One dead in Highway 180 crash west of Fresno

One man died in a fatal crash at Brawley Avenue and Highway 180 just west of Fresno Monday night, said California Highway Patrol.

A white Ford F150 pickup was stopped on eastbound Highway 180 shortly after 7:30 p.m. waiting to turn left onto Brawley. As the driver began to turn, a white van headed west ran the red light, said CHP Sgt. Jim Del Carlo.

The van hit the truck bed on the side while it was turning left, Del Carlo said. The van ended up on its side wrapped around the northwest pole of the traffic light.

Fresno firefighters attempted to pull the van's driver out of the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver appeared to be the van's only occupant. No one in the truck was injured, the CHP said.
