The Tower District Business Network will host an evening to meet the Fresno City Council's District 1 candidates April 9 at the Tower Theater in Fresno.

The event will go from 6 to 8 p.m. where all candidates have been invited to present their key campaign ideas to the Tower community and answer questions.

Blong Xiong is termed out of the seat, and the race to represent District 1 has attracted seven candidates: manager Lawrence Cano -- who lost to Xiong in 2010 -- businessman/attorney Mark Castro, business owner Cary Catalano, businessman Rama Kant Dawar, mental health professional Rebeca Rangel, Jackson Shepherd, who has no ballot designation, and Esmeralda Soria, an attorney and legislative staff member for Assembly Member Henry T.
