Visalia adopts water emergency rules in drought

The Fresno BeeMarch 19, 2014

Due to drought, the Visalia City Council this week imposed water emergency rules that take effect April 17.

Under revised Stage 4 water emergency rules, residents can water lawns and landscaping one day a week March-April and November-December; twice a week in May and October; and three days a week June-September.

No landscape irrigation will be allowed in January and February.

Lawns and landscaping can be watered a total of 30 minutes a day on watering days.

The new rules should cut annual landscape water use by 25%, the city said. About 60% of water use in the city is for landscape irrigation.
