Covered California insurance signup event at Fresno Fairgrounds

The Fresno BeeMarch 19, 2014

The public is invited to a free health insurance enrollment event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fresno Fairgrounds' Gems and Minerals building.

March 31 is the last day this year to sign up for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act and avoid fines.

Service Employees International Union, Local 521 and partners will help people enroll in health plans through Covered California, the state's health benefit exchange, as well as Medi-Cal, the state-federal insurance for people with lower incomes.

People also can enroll in the food stamps program called CalFresh.

Representatives from WE Connect will help set up appointments for free tax preparation services.

Check with fresnobee.com for updates throughout the day.
