Girl crossing Shields Ave. struck by car in central Fresno

A girl struck by a car while crossing a central Fresno street was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center early Wednesday.

Police Sgt. Alex Flores said the incident took place about 6:15 a.m. at Shields and Thorne avenues. The girl was walking on Shields Avenue from north to south when she was struck. She is reported to be in very serious condition.

Shields Avenue has reopened after being closed from Harrison to Adoline avenues as the police department's Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the collision.
