Abandoned Fresno home catches fire

The Fresno BeeMarch 17, 2014

A fire at an abandoned home near Belmont and Poplar avenues caused an estimated $100,000 in damage overnight, the Fresno Fire Department reports.

Spokesman Koby Johns said the cause of the blaze remains undetermined. One firefighter sustained minor burns to his ears while attacking the fire, but was treated at the scene and remains on duty.

Johns said that at one point, a crew on the roof was cut off from their escape route by flames and firefighters on the ground used a fire hose to protect them as they escaped down a ladder.
