Candlelight memorial for Arthur Gomez held in Parlier

The Fresno BeeMarch 15, 2014

About 1,000 people attended a candlelight memorial Friday night in Parlier for Arthur Gomez, a well-known youth football coach who was killed in a shooting earlier this month.

The vigil was held at Parlier High School's football stadium.

A next-door neighbor, Joel Valera, 37, is accused of shooting Gomez at the coach's home in front of his family March 7 after the two had a verbal disagreement. Valera faces charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Donations for Gomez's family will be accepted at a car wash at 8 a.m. Sunday at the Dollar Tree at Ashlan and Cedar avenues in Fresno.
