Kate Borders and friends to gather one more time at Peeve's

Mark it on your calendar: 4 p.m., Friday, Peeve’s Public House on Fulton Mall’s north end.

That’s when friends and well-wishers will gather to bid farewell to Kate Borders, Downtown Fresno Partnership’s chief executive for more than two years.

Borders’ last day with the Partnership was today (Wednesday). She was busy in the afternoon training the Partnership’s new bookkeeper. Borders did a lot of things at the non-profit, including the books.

Borders said she’ll spend the rest of the week packing at home. She and her family (husband, two daughters) are moving to Tempe, Arizona where Borders will head Downtown Tempe Community, a private organization that teams with the city of Tempe to promote the Mill Avenue District. Tempe is home to Arizona State University.

Tempe is part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area (population — more than four million).

Craig Scharton will take over at Downtown Fresno Partnership until a nationwide search finds a permanent replacement. Scharton owns Peeve’s.

“80-20,” Borders said of Scharton’s planned division of labor. “80% here (she points to the Partnership’s office on the mall’s south end) and 20% over there (she points toward Peeve’s, six pedestrian-mall blocks away).”
