Woman killed walking on Highway 180 west of Fresno

The California Highway Patrol is trying to determine why a 61-year-old woman was walking on Highway 180 west of Fresno when she was struck and killed by a car Thursday night.

The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Leang Kim Uk of Fresno.

The CHP reported the woman was walking east in the middle of the highway, just east of its intersection with Grantland Avenue, when she was struck about 7:20 p.m. The driver was traveling at about 60 miles per hour and tried unsuccessfully to swerve and miss the woman, CHP said.

It is unknown why she was walking on the highway when she was struck, CHP said. The investigation is ongoing.
