Helicopter's forced landing becomes teachable moment at Sanger school

The Fresno BeeMarch 6, 2014

What started as a precautionary helicopter landing at a Sanger elementary school turned into a presentation for arriving students Thursday morning.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Eagle One helicopter crew was in the area Wednesday night assisting Sanger police on a wanted-felon call. The crew was headed back to Fresno when they smelled smoke. As a precaution, they landed the helicopter at Jackson Elementary School where it stayed overnight until the problem was determined to be minor.

Before taking off, the crew gave the students a presentation on the helicopter and how it assists the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Fresno County.
