Visalia Police Department to use new communication service

The Fresno BeeMarch 5, 2014

Visalia Police Department will begin to use a new communication service that allows it to send text messages, emails and Web updates directly to community residents.

The Nixle Community Information Service will enable the department to send crime and arrest reports and other safety and community information to residents directly. The service is secure, reliable and easy to use. Subscribers can personally manage alerts for email, text or the Web, the department said.

Nixle will build on communication platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.

Visalia police said Nixle adds a key component to communication: security. The information received via Nixle can be trusted, the department said.

To receive information via text message, email and the Web, register at www.nixle.com.
