Blood drive Tuesday for Selma firefighter

The Fresno BeeMarch 3, 2014

Selma firefighters will host a replacement blood drive in honor of colleague Chris Nelson on Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. at Adventist Medical Center-Selma, 1141 Rose Ave.

Nelson was hurt in a fall from a 24-foot ladder last month during training when he apparently passed out about halfway down, according to Selma Fire Chief Mike Kain.

Blood donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old. The Central California Blood Center suggests donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before their donation. Donors who are 16 and meet the above requirements can donate with parent consent.
