Pedestrian, 82, killed by vehicle in southeast Fresno

An 82-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday morning in southeast Fresno, police reported.

Lt. Joe Gomez said officers were sent to southbound Chestnut Avenue at Balch Avenue, where they found the victim lying in the roadway shortly before 6 a.m. They learned that the victim, who has not been identified, walked in front of the vehicle and the driver could not stop in time.

The driver was not cited for any violations and the department's Collusion Reconstruction Unit is investigating the death.
