Children's Hospital Central California in Madera County will celebrate the opening of the Sweet Eats Program, a family kitchen stocked with free food, on Thursday along with a new laundry service for families.

The new kitchen is in the oncology unit and is fully stocked with free meals, snacks, drinks and coffee from local food drives and community donations. The laundry service will pick up and drop off laundry weekly through Jones Cleaning Centers.

The Sweet Eats Program was established by the Wille family after they lost their 3-year-old son to leukemia in April 2013.

The Willes joined forces with the local nonprofit Sweet Nectar Society Inc. to raise money for the Sweet Eats Program. Since August, the program has provided more than $2,000 in gift cards to families, received more than $10,000 for appliances and products, collected more than $3,000 for food and accumulated nearly $10,000 to support the program in 2014.

The opening ceremony celebration will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Guild Hall at Children's Hospital.
