A man in his 20s was in critical condition Wednesday night after being shot near the Tower District, Fresno police said.

Police received calls about 10 p.m. that several shots had been fired near Palm and Olive avenues, police Lt. Herman Silva said. When officers arrived they found a Hispanic man with a gunshot wound to his face.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and was in critical condition.

There were several bicycles in the area, but Silva said it is unclear if the victim was on a bicycle or who abandoned them.

Investigators were continuing at work at the shooting scene Thursday morning.
