Trail Mix for 2/27: Needles Fire Lookout Tower to be rebuilt

The Fresno BeeFebruary 26, 2014

The U.S. Forest Service will rebuild the Needles Fire Lookout Tower near Springville in the Western Divide Ranger District. The original lookout tower was built in 1937-38 but was destroyed in a fire in July 2011.

The lookout tower housed a Forest Service employee who would detect fires and relay radio messages to a dispatcher. The new tower will have the same look and feel as the old tower and continue to support firefighters and backcountry travelers.
