A third person has died after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday at Belmont and Monroe avenues in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The victim, a 35-year-old Kerman man, was one of four taken to a hospital after the crash. Two people, including a 9-year-old boy, died at the scene.

A Grand Am Pontiac was northbound on Monroe Avenue and ran the stop sign at Belmont Avenue about 5:30 p.m., slamming into a Chevrolet Tahoe headed east, CHP Sgt. Joseph Bianchi said.

The vehicles rolled over and came to rest in an almond orchard. One car was engulfed in flames when the Fresno Fire Department arrived.

The two who died at the scene were the Pontiac's driver and the boy, who was a passenger in the Tahoe. The man who died later also was a Tahoe passenger. The Tahoe had five people inside, including the driver, identified as Maria Campos, 35, of Kerman.

One passenger from the Tahoe was airlifted to a Fresno-area hospital and the other passengers were transported by ambulance.

Rain was not a factor in the accident, Bianchi said.
