Fresno Chaffee Zoo has announced the names of its four Malayan tiger cubs following public votes conducted by the zoo and The Fresno Bee. The winning male tigers' names are Berani, which means courage or brave in the Malay language, and Cinta, which in English translates to "love."

The female tigers' names are Arya, which means truthful or warrior, and Batari, which means goddess. The winning female names were the top two vote-getters overall out of 7,191 total votes cast.

The public cast their votes on a ballot published on and on the zoo's Facebook page. Voting closed Wednesday afternoon. All of the names were derived from the Malay language.

"We think they are absolutely beautiful names, they were fitting," said Lyn Myers, assistant curator. "We are just happy the public and our guests had a chance to weigh in and have a part in it."
