I was in Fresno in 1964 when the city turned Fulton Street into the mall. My friends and I were against it because they were paving over our place to cruise (drag the main) on Friday and Saturday nights.
But when the mall was completed, we went to see it and shopped there until our favorite stores moved out or went out of business. It was a wonderful place with trees, fountains, statues, art sculptures and the like. They even had little trams to take people up and down.
I know many people wish that something could be done to preserve this wonderful place. I just don't believe that tearing it out to put cars back and add a handful of parking places is worth the price. Once the mall is gone, it's gone for good.
