Fresno County Armenian churches to commemorate religious freedom

The Fresno BeeFebruary 24, 2014

Armenian churches of Fresno County will celebrate Vartanantz, a battle fought in 451 to preserve religious freedom in Armenia, with a special service Thursday at the Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church in Fresno.

Armenians around the globe commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Avarayr, or Vartanantz, every year the Thursday before Lent.

The commemoration is open to the public and begins at 6:30 p.m. at 3673 N. First St. near Garland Avenue.
