An officer-involved shooting in southwest Fresno left one man dead Sunday, Fresno police Chief Jerry Dyer said.
Police said officers responded to the area of Lorena and Bardell avenues about 5:40 p.m.
The shooting was prompted after officers pulled over a BMW for a traffic violation and two passengers ran from the car — one of them armed with a handgun, Dyer said.
An officer then proceeded to chase the armed suspect and fire shots at him.
Dyer said the suspect was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
Police are trying to determine what prompted the officer to open fire on the suspect, Dyer said.
