Immigration workshop on waivers to be held Tuesday in Selma

The Fresno BeeFebruary 21, 2014

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will hold an informational event in Selma on Tuesday to help people understand unlawful presence waivers.

For nearly one year, people applying for immigrant visas who are spouses, children and parents of U.S. citizens are able to apply to waive their unlawful presence before leaving the U.S. The waiver process allows people to apply in the U.S. before leaving for immigrant visa interviews at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.

The process is expected to shorten the time U.S. citizens are separated from their immediate family while they get immigrant visas.

The informational event will be held at the Selma Public Library, 2200 Selma St., at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The program will be in English and Spanish. For more information visit www.uscis.gov/provisionalwaiver.
