With the usual outpouring of negativity regarding a new Walmart location at Ashlan and Blackstone avenues, I need to turn the tables for a second. I want to thank Walmart for not only utilizing a building that is already constructed, but that has been vacant for a number of years. Thanks also for opening an opportunity for additional employment in my neighborhood and for giving area residents who can't drive, or are on limited funds, a place to purchase goods for their homes.
In a perfect world, we would still have mom-and-pop shops, everyone would know your name, your kids' names and we would support our brothers and sisters in their business ventures. We can still get to know the people that work at big box stores in our areas and support our brothers and sisters by shopping at the places that employ them, even if that means shopping at a Walmart.
