Like most of Fresno, I was glad to hear that President Obama was coming to see firsthand the effect of the drought on the farming industry. The view of dry farmlands and dead pastures surely evokes concern for our local economy and for the food supply of the entire country.
Our representatives are putting forth bills for emergency funds to ease our water problems, but passage of these proposals will be difficult. We might see as much as (but probably less than) $300 million.
As I flipped the pages of The Bee, I read about our president's praise of the Jordanian people and their generosity, while expressing his understanding of the "great strain" on their resources in dealing with refugees of a war not of their making.
Then he gave them a billion dollars.
God bless America.
