More of the same arrived in the Valley on Valentine's Day. President Obama did acknowledge that farmers are doing their part to conserve water with drip irrigation. He touted California farmers for being the largest agricultural producers in the country.
Unfortunately, the good news stopped there. President Obama announced climate change as the culprit for the drought. Climate change is not what brought us to dangerously low water levels. As immigration into California increased, representatives such as Sens. Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Jim Costa neglected to maintain and create water infrastructure to keep up with the population. The Delta smelt was the center of the controversy, but now climate change is the new excuse to keep water from farmers.
The war on Valley farmers will continue as long as environmentalist-appeasing representatives keep getting re-elected. The San Joaquin Valley was the fruit basket of the world. How much water will the millions of dollars President Obama is going to hand out buy for the farmers? Keep your money and turn on the pumps! Food grows where water flows.
