The Fresno State football team will face a stiff test this fall in defense of its Mountain West Conference championships.

The MW on Thursday announced its 2014 conference schedule, one that will make the Bulldogs play eight consecutive weeks to start the season and open league play with three of four on the road.

Fresno State's conference opener is Sept. 27 at New Mexico, followed by a home game Oct. 4 against San Diego State. Road games at UNLV (Oct. 11) and Boise State (Oct. 18) follow.

Following a bye, there are back-to-back home games against Wyoming (Nov. 1) and San Jose State (Nov. 8) before a trip to Nevada (Nov. 22) and the Nov. 29 regular-season finale against visiting Hawaii.

Fresno State's challenging nonconference schedule -- road games against USC (Aug. 30) and Utah (Sept. 6) and home games against Nebraska (Sept. 13) and Southern Utah (Sept. 20) -- was previously announced.

"Our program is excited to see our full 2014 schedule come out today, and we know the Red Wave too will be excited to see the lineup of teams coming to Bulldog Stadium," Fresno State coach Tim DeRuyter said.

All games are currently scheduled for Saturday. However, some may switch to Thursday or Friday over the coming months as the league's television partners, CBS and ESPN, make their selections.

Kickoff times will also be announced a later date.

All MW teams play five games against teams in their own division and three against the opposite division. In 2014, the second year of a four-year scheduling cycle, Fresno State misses Air Force, Utah State and Colorado State. The Bulldogs will miss Boise State, New Mexico and Wyoming in 2015-16.
