What's happened to the once mighty adverb? Why have we as a nation become so lazy that we can't add an "-ly" to the adjective form of a word to transform it into an adverb when an adverb is the proper form to use?

Situation comedies on TV seem to be the worst offenders in corrupting our language with improper grammar. Are our schools doing anything to fight this? Do they even care? I guess more basically, does anyone care? Sadly, the answer to that question seems to be "no," and the dumbing down of our society charges ahead at full speed.
