After years of ignoring California's water woes, Sen. Dianne Feinstein has finally introduced legislation regarding water deliveries.
Unfortunately, the legislation does not address the federal laws that have caused the problem to begin with.
The senator's legislation simply requests the administration to take into account all options to deliver water under the existing law. I repeat: The current federal flawed laws are the problem.
That is why Feinstein's legislation will not solve our water crisis. The federal Endangered Species Act needs amending, the Central Valley Project Improvement Act needs amending and the Clean Water Act also needs amending.
Without those changes to federal law, our water wells and jobs will continue to dry up.
Shame on our water agencies and farm organizations that gave full endorsement to such a meaningless water bill.
Farmers understand that water is worth much more than money, this does not appear to be the case with lobbying organizations and water agencies.
Will the president put forward something of substance to help resolve California's water dilemma? I have my doubts.
