Trail Mix for 2/20: Blossom Trail Run in Sanger next Saturday

The 17th annual Blossom Trail Run takes to the streets of downtown Sanger on March 1.

The 10K run is the first 30-point race on the Valley Runner of the Year series calendar and benefits the town's park and recreation department. The 10K walk starts at 7:15 a.m. with the run following at 8:15.

** Sign-ups are open for the 35th annual Brian Sturgeon St. Patrick's Day Run/Walk on March 8. The run/walk will be at Woodward Park with the first walks starting at 7 a.m. The 4-mile race worth 30 points in the Valley Runner of the Year series will start at 7:30 a.m.

Fine Gold Creek Hike

When: 9 a.m. Saturday

Where: Fine Gold Creek Preserve

The Sierra Foothill Conservancy will lead a moderate hike along Fine Gold Creek just above Millerton Lake. The hike follows a newly cut trail that runs streamside and onto gradual slopes, steeper inclines and rocky areas. The hike takes about four hours, including a lunch stop and the walk back to the parking lot. Spots are limited.

McKenzie Table Top Preserve Hike

When: 9 a.m. Sunday

Where: McKenzie Preserve, north of Fresno

The Sierra Foothill Conservancy is hosting a guided hike to the McKenzie Table Mountain Top Preserve. The hike is about 6 miles roundtrip with some level walking before the climb to the top. The last mile to the top has an elevation gain of about 1,000 feet. The hike takes about five hours, allowing for a picnic lunch at the top. Limited spots are available.

** The conservancy is seeking volunteers to help clear trails on the McKenzie Table Top of overgrowth and excess foliage at 9 a.m. Saturday. Trail work equipment and gloves will be provided. Volunteers should bring their own snacks and water.

Yoga Under the Oaks

When: 10 a.m. Sunday

Where: McKenzie Preserve picnic grounds

Linda Marie Hurst will host a 90-minute all-level Hatha yoga class on the principles of breathing, body awareness, core strength and contemplation. The class is open to all levels and abilities. The group will meet in the parking lot off Auberry Road before walking to the picnic grounds. Registration is free for members, $10 for non-members and $20 per group of family and friends.

Sportsmen's Swap Meet on March 8

The Fresno County Sportsmen's Club is hosting its 17th annual swap meet March 8 at its clubhouse grounds at 10645 N. Lanes Road in Fresno. Buy, sell and trade outdoors equipment for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating and more.

Sycamore Island set for second fishing derby

Registration is open for the San Joaquin River Fishing Derby at Sycamore Island (39664 Avenue 7 1/2 in Madera).

The derby runs 6 a.m.-1 p.m. March 15 and features a raffle with a grand prize of a lifetime California fishing license. Fishing derby categories are largest trout and largest bass caught by youth and adults.

GoPro basics workshop

REI is holding a free workshop on GoPro basics Sunday from 3- 4:30 p.m. at its Fresno store. The workshop will focus on understanding the camera's user interface, video resolution options, accessories, mounts and more. A fully charged GoPro (HERO3 or HERO2) is strongly recommended.

** On Tuesday, the REI Outdoor School is hosting a free workshop on international adventure travel basics. The 90-minute class starts at 7 p.m. and will cover the aspects of pre-planning, logistics, equipment and more.
