Fresno Pacific nearly swept the Pacific West Conference's baseball honors Tuesday, with J.D. Salles and Wilson Ashford named co-pitchers of the week and hot-hitting Joshua Banuelos the top newcomer.
Salles and Ashford each tossed eight scoreless innings in victories over San Francisco State. Salles scattered five hits, walked one and struck out 11 in a 2-1 win Friday night. Ashford allowed two hits and fanned seven in a 6-0 victory Saturday.
Banuelos went 4 for 9 with four RBIs in the series. On the season, he is 15 for 25 with a team-best 12 RBIs. He was the player of the week last week, when Salles also earned co-pitcher honors.
The Sunbirds (5-4), receiving votes in the NCAA Division II West Region poll, begin PacWest play this weekend, hosting West No. 8 Hawaii Pacific at noon Saturday.
