A house fire in the Easton area of Fresno County has claimed the life of an elderly man.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Capt. Ryan Michaels said fire crews received a call at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, about a house fire near the intersection of Adams and West avenues.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke flowing out of multiple windows and fire coming from the back of the house, Michaels said.

"We were also told by neighbors that there was someone in the home," Michaels said. "And we immediately went into rescue mode and started searching."

The man, who has not been identified, was found in the back bedroom of the single story home that sustained significant damage.

Michaels said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
