To all of the doubters of reinventing downtown Fresno and its landmarks, I would recommend visiting Flickr.com/photos/vintagefresno.
Viewing the images brought me to a necessary sentimentality of what I experienced on visits with my parents to the Fresno locale, while being reared in the Bay Area. I remember sipping on a Crush orange soda from a glass bottle purchased from a vending machine in the long-gone Travelodge on Broadway and Tulare, all the while observing from the quaint balcony of the motel the commerce that was occurring on the Fulton Mall.
I cannot understand the cavalier attitude that has been heaped upon a historic component that has given Fresno its character through periods of prosperity and insolvency. Reading all the recent letters regarding the dismissal of downtown Fresno, it is an absolute struggle for those who want downtown to once again regain its relevancy.
Fortunately, with sites such as Flickr, those with faith of restoring Fresno's past for the future is reality.
