Young athletes under the age of 16 packed into the Save Mart Center on Sunday night to compete during the first day of competition at the Run for the Dream indoor track and field invitational.
Events included 55-meter sprints, shuttle relays for kids 8 and younger, as well as the usual field events.
Action gets underway at 8 a.m. Monday as high school athletes compete in the California State Indoor Meet, which runs in conjunction with the Run for the Dream event. About 1,500 athletes will compete in 21 events, including Central Section standouts Rhesa Foster (Clovis North), Joey Souza (Kingsburg) and Jazmen Bunch (Edison).
After the high schools event, competition begins at 4:30 p.m. for the university, open and masters divisions.
