Sneak preview: Track and field
CALIFORNIA INDOOR STATE MEET AT THE RUN FOR THE DREAM MEET
Vitals: Today, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Save Mart Center.
The skinny: About 1,500 athletes will compete in 21 events in the seventh annual event, which was preceded by 11 qualifying meets — all outdoors — around the state. The Central Section will be well represented in a range of sprints, middle distance, long distance and jumps. That will feature Clovis North long jumper Rhesa Foster, who, as a freshman last spring, burst upon the local/state/national scene by placing first in the Central Section Masters and third in the state. Her personal best of 19 feet, 101/2 inches is fourth in section history and No. 2 for a freshman. Today's female field will also include section 100-meter champ Jazmen Bunch of Edison in the 55 meters. Among the boys, Tulare Western's Joe Herrera will attempt to defend his indoor title over 600 yards, Fresno Bee cross-country Runner of the Year Eduardo Herrera of Madera South — seventh in the D-I state last fall as only as a sophomore at Woodward Park — will go in the 1- and 2-mile runs, and Kingsburg's Joey Souza will compete at 55 meters.
