I am writing regarding "Schumer: Move Key Immigration Implementation Dates to '17, After Obama Leaves Office," by David Lightman on Feb 9. It should be noted, as Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., pointed out, President Obama has enforced current immigration laws more aggressively than any other president in American history.
It appears that the Republicans' argument that the proposed immigration laws will not be enforced lacks evidence. However, I do not agree with Schumer's suggestion of delaying implementation of the proposed immigration laws. The pathway of citizenship will improve the quality of the life of currently illegal immigrants and the background checks will weed out any engaged in criminal acts harmful to society.
How many more families will we tear apart before we finally act? How many men, women and children will we allow to embark on dangerous and fatal journeys before we wince? How many tax dollars will we lose before we allow everyone to do their part? If the president must act alone, so be it.
