Fresno City College's men's basketball team avoided a second upset of a Central Valley Conference schedule it has mostly dominated, as Rich Tesmer made a layup with 3:59 left in overtime and the NorCal No. 4-ranked Rams beat Reedley 68-61.
The Tigers' Andre Frazier made a basket with 12 seconds left to send the game to overtime.
The lone loss for the Rams (26-2, 9-1) in the conference came against Sequoias on Feb. 5. The Giants are one game back.
Reedley fell to 7-13 and 5-6.
Rams women decide it early, add new CVC hoops title to collection
Fresno City College scored the first 16 points en route to an 85-56 victory over Reedley to clinch a tie for the CVC women's basketball title for a seventh straight year and ninth straight for coach Brian Tessler dating to his days at Reedley.
The Tigers (2-22, 1-10) missed their first 15 shots, and the state No. 3 Rams led 44-11 at halftime. Keyora Wharry had 19 points and 15 rebounds for Fresno City (25-3, 10-1).
Jasmine Stevenson led Reedley with 12 points.
Fresno Pacific splits baseball twinbill at San Francisco State
Fresno Pacific split its baseball doubleheader against visiting San Francisco State, taking the first game 6-0 and dropping the second 3-2 in seven innings.
Wilson Ashford (1-1) pitched eight shutout innings in the front end of the doubleheader to help the Sunbirds (5-4) claim their second victory of the three-game series.
Ashford struck out seven while giving up just two hits and walking none. Michael Tittle had five hits on the day, going 3 for 4 with a home run in the win.
Left-hander Drew Merlo (0-1) made his first start of the season in game 2 and pitched five scoreless innings before the Gators (3-5) got three in the sixth. Tittle had two steals and scored both runs.
Fresno City baseball team hits slump ahead of conference opener
Chabot (4-3) scored three in the fifth to break a scoreless tie en route to a 5-1 victory over Northern California preseason top-ranked Fresno City College in a nonconference baseball game at Euless Park.
The Rams (4-6) have lost 4 of 5. Fresno City will open Central Valley Conference play on Wednesday at West Hills.
--Cooper Miranda had a two-run triple to highlight an eight-run third as West Hills hung on for a 15-14 victory over Victor Valley. Dustin Gaither was 4 for 4 for the Falcons (7-2), including a double in the fourth for two of his four RBIs. Victor Valley (2-8) rallied for six in the eighth.
Fresno City softball team picks up pair of nonconference victories
Fresno City's Kyla Cisneros hit a walk-off single to lead the state No. 5 Rams past Gavilan 3-2 in a nonconference softball game. The Rams (4-1) trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Fresno City earlier faced Solano and rallied to defeat the Falcons 7-4 behind Naomi Gomez's three-run, go-ahead home run in the fifth inning.
