A three-vehicle pileup resulted in two vehicles catching fire on Highway 180 in central Fresno about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The vehicle fires closed all the westbound lanes of Highway 180 at Fulton Avenue as the Fresno Fire Department extinguished the blaze. The passengers and drivers -- all from Fresno -- were able to get out of the vehicles before they burst into flames, the California Highway Patrol said.

Seven people had minor injuries, and one man was uninjured, the CHP said.

A traffic stoppage led to the pileup, with two vehicles rear-ending the vehicle in front of them, the CHP said. A 2003 Ford, 2002 Chevrolet and 2013 Kia were involved in the crash.
