Michelle Solomon did her thing at the plate and Jill Compton complemented it in the circle to help the Bulldogs get off to a good start at their Fresno State Kickoff tournament at Bulldog Diamond.
Solomon hit a solo homer three batters into the game, added a two-run shot in the fifth and Compton pitched five innings of one-run ball in a 5-1 win Friday over Sacramento State.
Fresno State (5-2) then made it a clean sweep, beating UC Riverside 5-0, with Stesha Brazil's two-run double highlighting a three-run first inning and Hannah Harris and Taylor Langdon combining on a six-hitter.
Sacramento State fell to 0-3. Riverside is 1-5.
Earlier, UC Santa Barbara (4-2) beat Cal State Bakersfield 5-3 and Sac State 3-2. Riverside's 5-3 win over Bakersfield dropped the Roadrunners to 2-6.
Pinch-runner Makenzie Wayadande scored one of the runs for the Hornets, but UCSB beat Sacramento with one in the eighth.
Roadrunners sophomore Sydney Raeber (Hanford High) allowed four runs in 2 2/3 innings against Riverside and went 1 for 3 with a run against the Gauchos.
