Yes, Judith Patton (letter Feb. 5) the NFL is a nonprofit. It is a trade association and 501(c)(6) and it does not make a profit so it pays no tax. If there is any profit at the end of the year it is distributed to its members and they pay taxes. The members (NFL franchises) pay taxes except for the Green Bay Packers because they are a nonprofit as well and they must return any profit to its members.
Every labor union is run the same way. Co-ops are run like this. Charities are run like this and the list goes on. It is not a scam and it's not some special deal the NFL has that is not available to others.
Most fans understand this. Just Google "NFL corporate structure." It is hardly the "biggest scam in American history." What is a scam is the baseless attacks made against any "rich" person or company by people who don't know what they are talking about.
