A Clovis man was sentenced to 10 months in prison Monday for conspiring to buy, receive, alter and pass counterfeit money, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said.
Court documents showed that Richard Melella, 44, and a co-conspirator, Christina Williams, 25, of Fresno purchased 54 counterfeit $100 bills in October 2012 from a third party. The seller instructed Williams on how to finish the counterfeiting process. Williams used a counterfeiting device to make the money look more authentic.
Williams and Melella used the counterfeit money, and Melella used some at a grocery store in Fresno County.
Williams will be sentenced April 7.
