Regarding Louis Bubenik's letter Feb. 1 blasting John Krebs for the ex-congressman's opposition to the proposed development of the Mineral King Valley: Many of us regard Mr. Krebs a hero for standing up to Disney. The Mineral King Valley is one of the most remarkable places on earth.
To allow a privateer to exploit a national treasure for corporate gain under the guise of creating some seasonal, low-wage jobs would have been a travesty. Part of Mineral Kings' allure is its remoteness.
If people don't want to take the time to negotiate the slow road, fine, go find some other form of entertainment. We don't seem to have a shortage of ski resorts or amusement parks.
John Krebs was one of the few congressmen that I can recall whom would not dance to the tune of Big Money lobbyists. Thanks, Mr. Krebs, for having the courage to do the right thing. Mineral King lives.
